To advance this goal, SDSU has established international engagement and governance groups that connect campus stakeholders, gather input from faculty and staff, and support a shared governance approach to internationalization.
International Affairs Governance Groups
Primary focus areas
- Develop and refine policies and procedures that strengthen the university鈥檚 international activities
- Review SDSU鈥檚 current international engagement and related resource commitments
- Identify program improvements and opportunities for growth

- 14 faculty
- 7 administrators/staff, including the Chief Executive Officer of the SDSU Research Foundation and the Director of International Programs (Chair)
- 1 staff member
- 2 students (one undergraduate and one graduate), each with study abroad experience

- Evaluate and approve SDSU Global Seminar programs
- Review short-term, faculty-led global seminar proposals for academic quality and feasibility

- Assess the risk of SDSU constituent international travel to countries or regions with significant health or safety concerns
- Serve as a resource to the Assistant Director of International Safety, Security and Risk and other senior administrators involved in international travel decision-making
- Review and approve proposed high-risk international travel by SDSU-affiliated individuals

Notable achievements
- Incorporated into SDSU鈥檚 Safety and Security Policy for International Travel as the committee responsible for reviewing and approving high-risk international travel proposed by SDSU constituents
- Recognized through approval of the policy by the SDSU University Senate on October 7, 2025, and subsequent approval by the SDSU President on November 4, 2025
